Goa Luweng Jaran Cave

Goa Luweng Jaran stretches in the Sewu Mountains ecokarst along the southern coast of Yogyakarta, Pacitan and Tulungagung is a magnificent cave system with a vertical door 60 meters and a length of 25,000 meters, has two vertical pitch with the first track of 25 meters and second track 35 meters.

Luweng Jaran cave has a door in Pacitan world-famous as the City of Thousand Caves. The longest cave in the elite ranks of the world by the World Caves Database, the mouth of the cave in the form of vertical hole so that the cavers must use complete SRT (Single Rope Technique).

The first exploration in 1984 conducted by the Anglo-Australian Speleological Expedition and Acintyacunyata Spleleological Club (ASC) Yogyakarta managed to create a map of the cave length of 11 kilometers. The expedition continued in 1986 and 1992 to add a map into total length of 25 kilometers.

The mouth of the cave type "swallow hole" is the disappearance of the river's surface into the ground and are very dangerous during the rainy season. The first form of narrow hallway wells as deep as 25 meters to the first terrace, then down again as deep as 35 meters.

Odzala-Kokoua National Park
