Bena traditional village

Bena traditional village is one of the megalithic settlements in Tiwuriwu village, Aimere district, Ngada regency, Flores Island, East Nusa Tenggara or about 14 kilometers south of Bajawa city. Village on hilltop has a view of Mount Inerie (2,245 meters) is the hallmark of old society as devotee of the mountain where the gods.

Bena village is an old village where residents believe in the existence Yeta is a god who lives in the mountains that protect their village. The village has circular layout consisted of 45 houses and grow extends from north to south. The entrance of the village only from the north, while the other end in southern part is the edge of steep cliff.

In a traditional village perched on Mount Inerie (2,245 meters) on Flores island is a world where time stood where the life of stone age era still living together impressive friendliness of its people with a smile on mouth and teeth stained red from chewing betel nut. Opulence and grandeur of one of the archipelago's cultural heritage is awesome.

Bena village still retains the old life and untouched technology. The architecture of building is very simple, has one gate for entry and exit. The researchers said Bena village was founded 1,200 years ago. The pattern of life, the culture has not changed much and still adhere to customs inherited from ancestors.

Nine tribal life is Bena, Dizi, Dizi Azi, Wahto, Deru Lalulewa, Deru Solamae, Ngada, Khopa and Ago maintaining the stone age culture that has not changed much. Each of the parts are in one level topography, Bena tribe house in the middle as the oldest tribe and founder of the village.

In the middle of village in form of a field with several buildings named Bhaga and Ngadhu. Bhaga buildings resemble small cottage and without inhabitant, while the single-masted Ngadhu form of buildings and thatched shade hut-like palm fiber. Pole Ngadhu of special wood material and hard at the same time serves as a sacrificial animal gallows when the folk ritual.

Bena residents belong to the tribe Bajawa are adherents of the Catholic religion. Men as farmers in the fields and women weave clothes. At first only one clan is Bena, but marriage with another tribe spawned clans and form whole new Bena villagers who adopts matriarchal kinship.

Bena community does not exploit the environment so the settlement has original contour of hilly land. Bena village shape resembles a boat as megalithic belief that the boat is a vehicle for the spirit to heaven. The nature of cooperation, mutual assistance and hard work exemplified hinted of ancestors in conquering nature sailed the seas until arriving in Bena.

Villagers to plant corn, tubers and legumes as the staple diet. They also gardening coffee, hazelnut and other agricultural commodities that thrive in foothills of Mount Inerie. For some women, they also weave to make clothes or fabrics that are sold to tourists.

The mountaineers flock to Mount Inerie during the dry season between June and August. From the top to watch beautiful panorama from all directions including Bajawa city in northwest. In southern part of the panorama of Savu Sea is pressed at the foot of mountain. In 1882 and 1970 Mount Inerie has erupted and is now leaving beauty trail and bamboo forests on fertile ground.

Timang Beach

Pantai Timang is coastal attraction forms the boundary between Java Island and Indian Ocean in Danggolo Sub-village, Purwodadi Village, Tepus District, Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, as one of the beaches in Gunung Kidul which has white sand.
