Vesak or Buddha Day

Buddha Day or Vesak or Waisaka or Wesakha or Waishakha or Visakah is a holy day of Buddhism which is celebrate in May at full moon or Purnama Sidhi at Borobudur temple and Mendut temple in Borobudur district or three kilometers from Mungkid city, Magelang regency, Central Java.

Vesak is a sacred day which celebration at the complex of Borobudur temple and Mendut temple every May to commemorate three important events is the born of Prince Siddhartha in Lumbini in 623 BC, Prince Siddharta reached Great Enlightenment and became Buddha in Bodhgaya at 35 aged in 588 BC and Gautama Buddha parinibbana or died in Kusinárá at 80 aged in 543 BC.

Three major events as Vesak Trisuci or Three Holiness of Vesak is expressed in the celebration of Vesak performed on the first full moon in May. Great Day celebrations are traditionally centered in complex of Borobudur temple and Mendut temple followed by Buddhists from all over the world.

The procession walking from Mendut temple to Borobudur temple and evening the people had gathered in near Lumbini park in Borobudur complex. While waiting for event, the people and monks pray in tents. There are a lot of tents and each tent to pray in different way. Various prayer echoed from each tent in sacred ceremonies.

Buddhists and travelers can watch more than 5,000 paper lanterns were released into the sky on the night of full moon with a view of Borobudur temple built by King Samaratungga of Sailendra Dynasty in the year 824 AD.

The series includes three activities of Vesak celebrations. The first is taking the holy water from Jumprit spring in Temanggung regency and torch using eternal flame in Mrapen, Grobogan regency. The second is Pindapatta is a ritual alms by people to monks. The third is the Samadhi on the moments of peak full moon based on calculations of astronomy.

Pindapatta ritual is a ritual where the monks receive offerings of food from the Buddhists. Monks would walk with his head down while holding a bowl and people will fill the bowls with food. Vesak torches, holy water and other Buddhist symbols are put to the western side of main altar in Borobudur temple.

Pindapatta procession carried from Mendut to Borobudur temple, passing through Pawon temple, Elo river and Progo river. Seconds ritual of Vesak is Pradaksina and closed with the release of lanterns that have meaning for the release of human suffering. Vesak celebrations also presents a parade and variety of arts.

Vesak Trisuci associated with the thoughts and views of people on the basis of four pillars is Metta or Maitri means love as Brahmavihara and Apamanna, Karuna means compassion as liberation from suffering, Mudita or sympathetic as gesture of happiness and virtue of all beings, and Upekkha or equanimity.

Giant Buddha statue sits majestically and stately at lotus-shaped throne in court of western side of Borobudur temple. A variety of offerings such as candles, flowers and incense on altar of the people placed in front of statue. As evening approached, the grandeur of Borobudur more lively by candle light which is becoming one of the important elements of the ceremony.

Ghata Visaka Puja recited by the congregation before the ritual surrounding the Borobudur temple three times starting from the east and moving clockwise. The beauty and the sacred touch anyone, especially when thousands of lanterns light up the sky to deliver the prayer and hope of people.

Timang Beach

Pantai Timang is coastal attraction forms the boundary between Java Island and Indian Ocean in Danggolo Sub-village, Purwodadi Village, Tepus District, Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, as one of the beaches in Gunung Kidul which has white sand. Odzala-Kokoua National Park or Odzala National Park is a conservation area of 13,500 sq kilometers (5,200 sq mi) at the Cuvette-Ouest Department, Republic of the Congo, declared a protected area in 1935, biosphere reserves in 1977, and national parks in the year 2001 at.
