Khombow

Khombow is a work of painting and carving on the bark by the people of Asei Island in Lake Sentani, Asei Besar Village, East Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, Papua, Indonesia, as a tradition of ancestors used as clothes or Malo. Ornaments on painting on the bark have a sacred significance where it belongs exclusively to the traditional leader or Ondofolo.

Since ancient times, the art of Khombow has 12 ornaments such as sun, snake, lizard, fish, crane legs, eels, bats, flying squirrels, leaves, flowers and spirals. The motives for mythological aspects are Hu and Yoniki, while the social and economic aspects are Fouw, Kasindale, Isomo and Kino.

Paintings and carvings using bark media from Khombow trees that have a diameter of 15 cm where the skin is peeled to pound on the stone, then washed and dried in the sun. The dominant color is black made using soot, white using white limestone and breadfruit sap, while the red color of red limestone and fruits.

The Khombouw tree is very special where the bark can stretch up to three times as rubber when pulled. Wooden painting sheets measuring 30 cm to 60 cm have become collections in museums around the world where the first anthropologists traveled to Sentani.

Communities around Lake Sentani make Khombow use a technique that has not changed since ancient times, although it has used modern equipment to cut trees using iron axes, machetes to peel bark and iron plates to pound before being dried as canvas.

Asei Island is in the middle of Lake Sentarni where 300 people are very friendly Asei tribe as one of the oldest kampong in Sentani. The majority daily catch fish and harvest sago where the culture of painting on bark is taught for generations to document daily life.

Timang Beach

Pantai Timang is coastal attraction forms the boundary between Java Island and Indian Ocean in Danggolo Sub-village, Purwodadi Village, Tepus District, Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, as one of the beaches in Gunung Kidul which has white sand.
