Cap Go Meh 2018 parade in Singkawang City presents 912 Tatung

Lunar New Year and Cap Go Meh committee in Singkawang City announces Tatung convoy will be held on March 2, 2018. An annual march of 'shaman' attractions is conducted by Chinese ethnic communities in West Kalimantan to celebrate Cap Go Meh marking the first 15 days after the Chinese new year.

Singkawang in West Kalimantan held the celebration of Cap Go Meh very lively where Tatung marching attractions as a hybrid in Chinese and Dayak cultures. Tatung is a shaman that Chinese ethnic believe to carry the ancestral spirit called 'Lauya' into him. The Tatung parade will walk the city streets and spectacular.

"The number of Tatung listed this year has exceeded the record target of 777 Tatung last year," said Lunar New Year and Cap Go Meh chairman committee, Tjhai Leonardi, Tuesday.

They do attraction by hurting themselves in this parade, but they do it in a safe way because it gets the 'power' of its Lauya and will not get hurt. The Chinese New Year Committee and Cap Go Meh in Singkawang have registered at least 912 Tatung who will participate on March 2nd, 2018.

"The hundreds of Tatung listed are made up of Tatung using a stretcher, Tatung without a stretcher, jelangkung, miniature temple, lion dance, and onde-onde," Leonardi said.
