Travelers can also take a boat cruise to the Donsol River through mangrove trees and palm trees, especially watching the night blaze by millions of glittering fireflies, traditional shrimp with bamboo and nets followed by a delicious dinner of cooked catches.

Swimming with whale sharks known as butanding can be seen from November to June and attendance peaked from February to May. Locals have known of the presence of whale sharks over 100 years ago, but they believe this gentle giant is dangerous.

This false view changed on December 26, 1997 where a group of divers led by Romir Aglugub interacted with whale sharks. Video footage was forwarded to the media and Donsol was renowned as "The Capital of the Whale Shark World" in March 1998.

Interactions with whale sharks are regulated by local governments and the WWF Guidelines are generally to protect. The rules include limiting the number of swimmers per boat to six and the diver should have a distance farther than three meters from the whale shark.

Travelers have a night tour to watch fireflies and catch shrimp traditionally throughout the year. Divers also visit Manta Bowl and San Miguel Island in Ticao for better facilities than any other countryside. Donsol also has trekking and biking sites especially the hilly terrain.

Delicious food abounds in this region. Bicolano cuisine is famous for its gata or coconut cream. The laing or gabi dishes are dried taro leaves cooked in coconut cream with cuts of meat or fish. Bicol express is roasted pork with shrimp paste, coconut cream and green chili.
