This mountain is one of the volcanoes that has a great history where at least every four years will regularly erupt. A Dutch geologist, Reinot Willem, proposed the theory that Mount Merapi erupted strongly in 1006 which caused the decline of the Medang Kingdom which subsequently moved from Central Java to East Java.

Travelers watch the summit of Mount Merapi as high as 2,965 meters in visibility of about 2 kilometers that continue to remove sulfatara smoke from the crater. Eruptions in 2006 and 2010 have transformed the Kaliadem Valley where the green campgrounds with vast expanses of land are now buried in sand, rocks and other lava materials.

Merapi Lava Tour takes the people to watch the ruins and a bunker where two volunteer bodies are found. The banker was built for protection if at any time Merapi spewing hot clouds, but the eruption in 2006 also spit out the material of sand and hot rocks that uproot a hill in the south, so as to pile up the area of Kaliadem.

Material stocks bunker 3 meters thick at temperatures up to about 1000 C. The bunker is made of 25 cm concrete and steel door, but the heat still goes into the roar that kills two volunteers. A volunteer was found dead in a bathtub bath, while others were killed in front of the iron door.

The bunker has been cleared and in front of the door is built an inscription to tell the history of the bunker. A visit at night in Kaliadem would be wonderful to watch the red lava melt down the Merapi dome. Only this view can be seen at night.
