Bantayan Island

Bantayan Island is a land area of 108.77 sq kilometers (42.00 sq mi) surrounded by beautiful turquoise waters west of the northern tip of Cebu island at Visayan Sea, Cebu Province, Central Visayas Region, Philippines. The island is mostly covered in coconut trees and coastal sinks during high tide to create a pond in shallow waters, but the beach spreads wide during low tide.

Bantayan is not a single island where small islands are uninhabited or uninhabitable around the main island. At least 20 islands stretch about 8 kilometers (5 miles) southwest of Bantayan harbor. Some islands can be accessed by walking during low tide. Small and green islands are almost indistinguishable from one another.

Many starfish can be seen in the intertidal area. The archipelago has been included in several laws to be divided into two regional states is a protected zone and a tourist zone. The dominant vegetation is ipil-ipil (Leucaena leucocephala), while the cultivated plants include coconut, cassava, banana, sugar cane, corn and mango.

The beautiful beaches of Bantayan Island include Paradise Beach, Alice Beach, Sugar Beach, Maricaban Beach, Kota Beach and Sandbar Beach. The beautiful islands include Virgin Island, Hilantagaan Island, and Kinatarkan Island. Obo-ob Mangrove Eco Park is a mangrove forest crawled by boat, kayak or walking.

Ogtong Cave is a small cave that protects the natural pool at Sante Fe Beach Club Resort and Park City in Madrilejos is a fort built by the Spaniards in the 1790s. Sts. Peter and Paul Church was built in 1580 as the oldest parish church in Visayas and Mindanao.
