White Island

White Island or Medan Island or Medano Islet is an uninhabited white dune of 700 meters (2,300 ft) in the middle of Bohol Sea, Mambajao, Camiguin Province, the Northern Mindanao Region, Philippines, or about 1.4 kilometers (0.87 mi ) from the north coast of Mambajao.

White Island is a sandbar that has no trees or any shelter, where the whole area consists only of white sand and coral reefs around it. The island is horseshoe shaped, though the tide is constantly resizing and reshaping in its proper shape

Among the common forms of the island are the "C", "L" and "J" letters. Strong moonsoon waves break the sand dune into two or three smaller white sandbags. Surrounding the island is a lush submarine ecosystem of coral, fish and more.

Routes and public transport: Flight to Camiguin Airport in Mambajao (Camiguin Island), then use the jeepney or motorbike to Agoho to board the boat to White Island for 1.4 kilometers (0.87 miles) in 10 minutes.

Advice: Local authorities have arranged boat trips to transport travelers from Camiguin to White Island. Each ship carries up to 6 passengers. You can split the cost if going with a friend, but if you go alone join another tour group to get a better deal.

Boat services usually allow travelers to stay on White Island for up to 4 hours. If you decide to stay longer, you can pay extra for every hour more. The locals love to earn extra income. You can also ask the staff at your resort and they will help make some arrangements.

The island lacks vegetation so travelers are in constant tropical sunshine. Be sure to bring sunblock lotion or umbrella and drinking water. Local people will usually go there as early as 5 am and return at 8 am to avoid the sun

Snorkeling equipment rental and life jacket available in Agoho. Rare coral species sometimes appear on the coast of the island, but bringing out the island is illegal. The sand dunes are surrounded by colorful coral reefs on one side and black corals on the other. The current on White Island can be very strong.
